Strasbourg in a vibrant city, with exceptionally rich history, cultural scene, and gastronomy. It hosts numbers of European Institutions like the European Parliament, and a renown University, making it a cosmopolitan and international city.
All scientific activities at the Observatory, and most aspects of everyday life can be carried in English.

Funded positions
Interdisciplinary PhD and Postdoctoral program in Astrophysics and Machine Learning
Strasbourg University offers funding for PhD fellowships (3 years) and Postdoc fellowships (2 year) for interdisciplinary projects connecting astrophysics and machine learning. Please note that the project must contain research on ML, and not just the use of ML as a tool.
If you are interested in such programs, with the astronomy part about galaxy formation and evolution, galactic archeology, star formation, star clusters, or stellar streams, please express your interest by email (florent.renaud<at>astro.unistra.fr) with your CV and a short description of your project, to receive full consideration.
Deadlines: Yearly, around early November (postdoc) and early March (PhD).

Start by looking for funding opportunities at national (France) and European levels (e.g. Marie Curie fellowships), or exchange/cooperation schemes like bi-lateral agreements between your home country and France. (There are more of those than you think!).
